Dr. Raffaele Spanò has been a Technician in the Nanotechnology for Precision Medicine research line at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia since July 2019.
He focuses on developing Polymeric Microparticles loaded with thrombolytic drugs, such as Tissue-Type Plasminogen Activator, for therapeutic applications in vascular diseases.
He holds a Ph.D. in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine from the Università Degli Studi di Genova.
During his Ph.D., he developed a Human Platelet-Rich Plasma-based additive for cell culture and skin dressings to enhance wound healing, detailed in his thesis, "Platelet derivatives: from the Laboratory Bench to the Bedside."
Dr. Spanò also earned an MSc Degree in Applied Science, Medical, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the Università Degli Studi di Genova, where his thesis, "Alteration of bone turnover and growth plate in transgenic mice overexpressing Lipocalin-2 in bone," focused on significant discoveries.
Early in his career, he contributed to groundbreaking bone and cartilage regeneration research using stem cells and blood derivatives.
